BELLARINE PENINSULA

Usually any chance I get, I head down to the Mornington Peninsula and lay about down at my favourite spots around home, this time round we wanted to head somewhere different.

Hello the Bellarine Peninsula!

Just over an hours drive out of Melbourne, towards the Great Ocean Road, we camped down at a little spot on the river at Barwon Heads. The cutest little coastal town boasting the river and surf beach all within walking distance, it felt like a little retreat. We had an unpowered site which meant less screen time and more adventure time to get out and about and explore! For most of the trip we had our phones on aeroplane mode and it was SO refreshing to switch off from the online world and enjoy our time beachside.

Barwon Heads was a slower pace, then Sorrento or Mornington, where we usually hang out and it was such a nice change. If you're thinking of a taking a little escape to the coast I've curated a little list of places we slothed around at and devoured our favourite foods at. Best thing is it's only an hour and a half away, perfect for a quick escape.

Places we stuffed our face at...

At The Heads for beautiful seafood and dining right on the water. Also try Jetty Road next door for take away. We actually intended on ordering from here but all the fish was sold out by 7pm! Must be good!

The Beach House for fancier pub like food that's not actually at a pub. Has an easy going, beachy vibe along the main street and open until late.

Annies Provedore for a cheeky wine (or 7) and cheese platter mid afternoon.

Surf Coast Whole Foods for your health fix. Out in Torquay main town it's an organic foods grocer serving smoothies, chai lattes, kombucha and all my healthy favourites. Breaky Board is the top pick with avo, toast, eggs, tomato and a mini acai bowl. YUM. Also the Acai Bowl in itself with added homemade peanut butter because, you deserve it.

The Mex for some tacos and jugs of sangria. More like western style of Mexican food apposed to fresh, tapas style but still pretty good if you're craving some good ol' cheesy nachos. You'll find this place back up in Ocean Grove and bookings are ideal if you want to waltz in at 7pm for a table.

One Day Estate for a rustic, unique winery set in between Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. Come here also for a cheeky wine (and that's all because you've already had 7, geez!) Open to the public on Sundays.

Places we hung out at...

13th Beach for the perfect amount of waves for little sissy's like myself. Along with pristine sand and a long stretch up the coast, it feels like you have the whole place to yourself amongst what felt like the locals only.

The Bluff for a hike that doesn't feel like one. We unintentionally went for a 2 hour walk around here due to the amazing views and easy walk. The 360 views of Bass Strait, Ocean Grove, Torquay and of course Barwon Heads makes it a highly bearable hike.

Barwon Heads River and Surf Beach are literally a 1 minute walk from eachother and appeal to so many people. Paddle Boarding and Kayaking perfect down the river and under the pier or heading over to the Surf Beach for more of a laze about and swim. We watched the sunrise from here and it was magical.

Arizona Living for adding 50 photos to your camera roll and Insta worthy uploads. The plant and homewares store in Jan Juc has the coolest selection of cactus' and plants for your home set along a pretty pink walk. D.E.A.D.

Bells Beach to Torquay Coastal Walk for sightseeing all the hot spots and for an easy coastline walk.

Point Lonsdale Lighthouse for another sweet little walk and perfect view point for watching the sunset. Hold on to your hats though, the wind is pretty hectic out here.

Now to plan the next trip...
